What is the Arkadelphia Rotary Club?

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club is a local chapter of Rotary International, a civic organization of business and professional leaders worldwide who desire to make a difference in their communities and the world. Sometimes affectionately dubbed the "noon club" in reference to the club's regular lunch meeting time, Arkadelphia Rotary Club strives to improve the local community by completing local service projects and supporting initiatives that benefit Arkadelphia, Rotary District 6170, and the world. Members can be proud of the many ways they are doing good!

Quick Facts

Arkadelphia's charter club dates back to 1919, just fourteen years after the first Rotary club formed in Chicago. Early in the year, local business leaders began meeting before formally organizing as a group on September 16, 1919. On November 1, 1919, Arkadelphia was issued a club charter and welcomed into full affiliation with Rotary International. Over the years, Arkadelphia Rotary has supported both local and international service projects and welcomed speakers from a variety of disciplines and cultures.

The club membership grew so large that in February 1999, a second chapter, Arkadelphia-Sunrise, was formed. In addition to two active Rotary chapters, Arkadelphia is proud to boast club-affiliated service organizations for service-minded individuals from age 3 until college, after which time individuals may be invited to full membership in Rotary.
Early Act/ Youth Act
For elementary and middle-school aged children, Early and Youth Act serve as a vehicle for student government, teaching young volunteers the value of community service and leadership.

Interact
For youth ages 12-18, the Arkadelphia High School Interact Club allows youth to connect with others in their community and school. Interact club members have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about the world. Interact clubs organize at least two service projects a year: one that benefits their community and one that encourages international understanding. While Interact clubs receive guidance from individual Rotary clubs, they govern and support themselves.

Rotaract
For individuals between the ages of 18-30, the Henderson State University Rotaract Club serves as an avenue to organize service activities, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun while giving back to the community. Though Rotary clubs sponsor Rotaract clubs, Rotaract members manage and fund their clubs independently. Rotaract members work closely with their local Rotary club, and may join after their Rotaract membership ends. The Rotarian sponsor of the HSU Rotaract Club is Dr. David Thomson. Over the years, Rotaract members have assisted Rotarians by serving as camp counselors at RYLA, distributing dictionaries to school-age children, and planting trees in addition to other club-sponsored projects and initiatives.
The Arkadelphia Rotary Club has hosted an impressive number of Group Study Exchange team members and Ambassadorial Scholars to spread awareness of other cultures and Rotary around the world. The Four-Way Test, created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor, is recited at the close of each meeting, reminding Rotarians of the goal of the organization.
