Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson to address Arkadelphia Rotary Club, May 29

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, May 29, 2015, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson has been invited to serve as guest speaker. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. For more information on the guest speaker, please read his brief biography below. 
JASON WATSON serves as sheriff of Clark County, Arkansas. A certified law enforcement officer since 1996, Sheriff Watson was sworn in to his first term in office on January 1, 2011. In May of 2014, he won re-election to his third term, which began January 2015.

Sheriff Watson has attained nearly 2000 hours of basic and advanced training from some of the top law enforcement trainers in the Country. Former and current organizations include International Homicide Investigators Association, International Crime Scene Investigators Association, National Safe Schools Association, Arkansas Crisis Negotiators Association, Arkansas Tactical Officers Association, Arkansas Safe Schools Association, and the Group Six Narcotics Board.

Since being elected he has been recognized by the United States Marshall’s Office and the National Sheriff’s Association. Sheriff Watson has a strong relationship with the school districts in Clark County, working with them in developing safer schools and on anti-bullying programs for all ages.

Jason and his wife, Amy, have a daughter, Hannah.

Isenhour of Ouachita Baptist University and Arkansas Symphony will speak to Arkadelphia Rotary, May 22

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, May 22, 2015, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Dr. Justin Isenhour of Ouachita Baptist University has been invited to serve as guest speaker. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. Justin Isenhour, PhD, currently serves as assistant professor of music at Ouachita Baptist University in addition to performing as a member of the Arkansas Symphony.

Dr. Isenhour grew up in Fort Mill, SC and picked up a trombone in his public school's sixth grade band. He pursued a degree in music at Appalachian State University under the tutelage of Dr. Harold McKinney, earning a Bachelors in Music in 2003. After completing his undergraduate degree, he attended the University of Northern Colorado as the Trombone/Euphonium Teaching Assistant and a student of Dr. Nathaniel Wickham, graduating with a Masters in Music in 2005. In 2009, at the Windswept Music Conference, he received certification as a Level II Creative Motion instructor. He was awarded a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina in 2012 after working with Dr. Bradley Edwards.

He performs in a wide variety of genres including classical, jazz and commercial music. He holds the position of second trombone in the Arkansas Symphony and previously performed with the Charlotte Symphony, Augusta Symphony, The Blumenthal Theater, Greeley Philharmonic, and the South Carolina Philharmonic.

As a teacher, Dr. Isenhour works with students of all ages, but spends the bulk of his time with his collegiate low brass studio at Ouachita Baptist University. He also teaches Music Theory courses at Ouachita.

Dr. Isenhour's article on approaching ornamentation in Johann Georg Albrechtsberger's Concerto in B-flat for Trombone (1769) appeared in the April 2006 International Trombone Association Journal (Volume 35, Number 2) .

He resides in Arkadelphia with his wife Jennifer and their sons, Owen and William.

Rogers and Brech of AllCare Diabetes Self-Management Education Program to speak to Arkadelphia Rotary, May 15

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, May 15, 2015, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Mrs. Lori Rogers and Dr. Detri Brech with the AllCare Diabetes Self-Management Education program will speak to the club about the rise of diabetes and the work they are doing to educate others about it. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. Lori Rogers is the program coordinator for the AllCare Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) program. Rogers graduated from UAMS with a bachelor's degree in Science and Nursing in 2001. She worked at the local hospital for 13 years before joining the AllCare team in October 2013. Lori resides in Gurdon with her husband Jeff and 3 children, Parker, Landon, and Brooklynn.

Detri Brech is the dietitian for the AllCare DSME program and teaches at Ouachita Baptist University. Brech earned a bachelor of science degree from Ouachita Baptist University, a master of science degree from Louisiana Tech University, and a Ph.D from Oklahoma State University. She is a certified diabetes educator. Before moving to Arkadelphia, she taught at Missouri State and the University of Central Arkansas. She has lived in Arkadelphia for 15 years and has a daughter, Katie, who is a senior at OBU.

Rogers and Brech are active members of BAHCC (Becoming a Healthier Clark County) and the Arkansas DAC (Diabetes Advisory Council).They will be discussing the ADA recognized Diabetes Self Management Program at AllCare pharmacy and the need for this program due to the rise of diabetes in this area and surrounding areas.

Christ of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program to speak to Arkadelphia Rotary, May 8

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, May 8, 2015, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Mr. Mark Christ of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program has been invited to serve as guest speaker. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. For more information on the guest speaker, please read his brief biography below.

Mark Christ is the Community Outreach Director for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage. 

Christ also currently serves on the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and is an award winning author and editor of numerous books about the Civil War in Arkansas. One of his works, "Getting Used to Being Shot At: The Spence Family Civil War Letters," focuses on the war time experiences of a family in Arkadelphia and two sons serving in the Confederate Army. 

Christ will be speaking about Elkin's Ferry and ongoing acquisition and preservation efforts for the property in Clark County. A graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Oklahoma, Christ lives in Little Rock with his wife and children.
