Sharp to serve as Arkadelphia Rotary guest speaker, Sept. 26

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, September 26, 2014, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Mr. David Sharp, director of athletics at Ouachita Baptist University, has been invited to serve as guest speaker. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. For more information on the guest speaker, please read his brief biography below. 
David Sharp has served Ouachita Baptist University as Director of Athletics since 1999.

Sharp got his start in collegiate athletics at Ouachita Baptist University where he played as an offensive guard and place kicker on the Tigers Football team from 1975-1979. After being red-shirted in 1975, he went on to score 100 points with 70 PAT and 10 field goals over the course of his athletic career. Sharp earned both his bachelor of science in education in 1980 and master of science in education in 1982 from the institution.

For two years while earning his master’s degree, Sharp served as a graduate assistant football coach. Upon graduation, he accepted a position as assistant football coach (1982-1998) and later defensive coordinator (1986-1998). In 1999, he transitioned from coaching to sports administration and began serving as director of athletics. Sharp is currently serving through 2019 on the NCAA Football Rules Committee for Division I, II, and III.

Sharp is married to Carrie Williams Sharp, his wife of 28 years, and the couple resides in Arkadelphia.

Goodner to serve as Arkadelphia Rotary guest speaker, September 19

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, September 19, 2014, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Mrs. Linda Goodner, education coordinator for Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, has been invited to serve as guest speaker. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. For more information on the guest speaker, please read her brief biography below. 
LINDA GOODNER works for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. She lives in Stamps, Arkansas, with her husband and daughter. She has worked for the AGFC since 1990. Since 2007, she has served as the Regional Education Coordinator for Southwest Arkansas. In her role, she serves a ten-county area including: Clark, Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Logan, Miller, Nevada, Pike, and Sevier. Goodner is a graduate of Southern Arkansas University (SAU) where she earned a bachelor of science in education and a master of education. 

Goodner will present "A Sneak Peek at Game and Fish" program, providing an overview of AGFC including the major divisions, support divisions, and the various programs and resources offered.

Eldridge to serve as Arkadelphia Rotary guest speaker, Sept. 5

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, September 5, 2014, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Mr. J.R. Eldridge, head football coach at Arkadelphia High School, has been invited to serve as guest speaker. Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. J.R. ELDRIDGE is in his 4th year as head football coach at Arkadelphia High School. Coach Eldridge has led the Badgers to back to back 4A-7 Conference Championships and was named the 4A-7 Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013.

In 2013, the Badgers finished 12-1 and reached the quarterfinals of the 4A State playoffs. The Badgers have made the state playoffs each of his three seasons as the AHS head coach. Coach Eldridge is 26-10 as the Badger head football coach, including a 42-13 season opening win this past Monday night over Stuttgart. The Badgers will play their first game on the new turf of AllCare Field at Badger Stadium on September 12, at 7 p.m. against Sheridan.

Before coming to AHS, Eldridge was on staff at Ouachita Baptist University for 10 years, where he served a stint as the Defensive Coordinator under head coach Todd Knight.
Eldridge graduated from OBU in 2000 where he was an Academic All-GSC linebacker for the Tigers. Coach Eldridge transferred to OBU after beginning his collegiate playing career at Henderson State. Eldridge holds a master's degree in English, a master's in strength training and conditioning, and a master of arts in teaching.

Eldridge, a graduate of Fayetteville High School, is married to Audrey Dingler Eldridge of Donaldson, with whom he has three children: Jack, a 2nd grader at Central; Max, a Kindergartener at Perritt; and their newest addition, Tripp, who was born in April 2014.
