OBU Former President Grant to Speak to Arkadelphia Rotary Club on Jan. 23

The Arkadelphia Rotary Club will meet Friday, January 23, 2015, at Western Sizzlin, 106 WP Malone Drive, for its weekly meeting. Rotarian and OBU Former President Dr. Daniel Grant has been invited to serve as guest speaker to share "The History of Ouachita Baptist University." Rotarians and guests are invited to attend. Dan Grant was OBU President #12, serving 1970-88, and has been a member of
the Arkadelphia noon Rotary Club since 1970, serving as past president and
Paul Harris Fellow.  He moved into the Ouachita President's home in 1934 at
the age of 9, early in the "Great Depression," when his father was
president.  He graduated with honors from Arkadelphia High School in 1941
and from Ouachita in 1945.  He earned the M.A. at Alabama in 1946 and the
PhD at Northwestern in 1948.  He married Betty Jo Oliver in 1947.  They
moved to Nashville, TN in 1948, where he had a 22-year tenure at Vanderbilt
University, as professor of public administration, founding director of
Vanderbilt's Urban Research Center, consultant for many U.S. cities, and
co-designer of the unique Nashville Metro government, adopted in 1962.  He
was co-founder of the Consortium for Global Education in 1988 and served as
president for ten years.  He still tries to play tennis every Tuesday night.
